MGA Unveils GoGolf Programme To Enable All Malaysians To Play Golf

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Golf Association (MGA) today launched the GoGolf Programme, aimed at ensuring the elite sport is accessible to all walks of life in the country.

MGA President Tan Sri Mohd Anwar Mohd Nor said the programme which was initiated three years ago is designed to inspire innovation besides bringing positive changes to the golf industry, starting from the grassroots level.

"We hope this programme will reach the masses aligned with Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's) aspirations that golf should not be an exclusive game but an inclusive game where even school students can play," he told reporters after the soft launch of the tournament at the Mines Resort & Golf Club in Seri Kembangan, near here, Tuesday.

Anwar said currently seven schools in the Klang Valley, three in Sabah and one each in Kedah, Johor and Sarawak are involved with MGA's development programme which is a good move for the association to churn out a pool of talented golfers at the young age.

He also pointed out that most of their 170 affiliates had started their junior development programme to give Malaysians a chance to play golf at their club house.

"If you look at the population of golfers in the country, apart from the challenges of clubhouse are facing such as high maintenance, it is also important for us to make golf affordable to everyone," he added.

Sharing the same views was Zurich Insurance Malaysia Berhad President David Fike who was delighted to collaborate with the MGA to organise the long-term programme.

"One of the reasons we are partnering with the MGA is to make golf accessible to all people and play our part to protect the golfers because many things can happen when you're in a golf course," he said.

AFTER a long journey, the last thing a traveller would want to do is to be subjected to a long check-in process at any hotel.
Wouldn't it be nice if all you had to do is just hand over your MyKad or passport and your particulars would be read and automatically entered into the hotel registration system? Well, this is possible if you check into a hotel with Hotel On! installed.

A home-grown hotel management suite developed by Albatrozz Sdn Bhd, Hotel On! speeds up the check-in/out process, cutting downtime and boosting efficiency.

It manages operations at the front office such as reservations and check-in/out, housekeeping and maintenance, all the way to financial operations.

Albatrozz's country sales manager Alex Yong said, "As creator of the hotel management system, we have always treated ourselves as the frontline instead of the programmer.

Functionality, ease of use and userfriendliness are important features." The system reads information off MyKad. So, all the front desk needs to do is to slot it into the reader and the details will be captured, including the photo for security purposes.

There is also a scanner that reads information off the passport, similar to those used by the Immigration Department.

Hotel On! was built six years ago when an Albatrozz client in Johor Baru wanted a management system for its 25-room boutique hotel.

"We took about six months to create our first version. Two system analysts and six programmers were involved in the development. The system is now in version 4.0," Yong said.

He added that newer software will be developed to work with the Windows 7 operating system, which supports multi-touch features.
Yong is upbeat about the regional travel industry. Because of the global economic downturn, more travellers are opting for cheaper destinations in Southeast Asia, which translates into more opportunities for Albatrozz to market Hotel On!, for example, to Singapore, Vietnam and Thailand, he pointed out.

"We have just finalised a deal to market our products in Ethiopia," he said, adding that the company has resellers and partners in Singapore, Vietnam and Nepal.
